Volunteer Treasurer Needed at George Street Community Bookshop!
Do you have a passion for books and a knack for numbers? George Street Community Bookshop is looking for a dedicated Treasurer to volunteer for our community co-operative bookshop!
About Us
Based on George Street, Glossop, we are a not-for-profit bookshop run (mostly) by volunteers, supporting literature, culture and promoting books and reading for all. Every penny of what we earn goes back into running the shop and community benefit.
The Role
As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in managing the bookshop’s finances, including:
- Keeping financial records (income & expenditure)
- Processing payments and donations
- Preparing simple financial reports
- Supporting budgeting and fundraising efforts
- Attending occasional committee meetings (flexible)
NB we work with Third Sector Accountancy, so have professionals on hand to prepare our accounts and annual returns as well as offering advice.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has basic bookkeeping or financial skills (experience helpful but not essential—training can be provided)
- Is trustworthy, organised, and comfortable with spreadsheets
- Can commit a few hours per month (remote or in-person)
- Shares our love for books and community spirit!
- Having working knowledge of Quickbooks would be useful.
Why Volunteer With Us?
- Be part of a passionate, book-loving team
- Support a vital community resource
- Gain experience in charity finance
No previous charity finance experience? No problem! We’ll provide guidance to help you settle in. If you’d like to help keep our story going, we’d love to hear from you!
